In the sun-drenched hills of Santa Eulària, Ibiza, a centuries-old tradition comes alive in every bottle of Basbas. This extraordinary spirit traces its origins to 16th-century monks who first distilled the island's wild-growing herbs into what would become hierbas – the soul of Ibicenco culture. Protected by local families for generations, our recipe harnesses more than a dozen hand-harvested herbs, spices, and fruits indigenous to the Balearic Islands.
Each ingredient is thoughtfully selected at its peak and masterfully blended through a nearly year-long process that requires adding and removing elements at precisely timed intervals. Wild rosemary mingles with juniper and sage, while sweet anise creates an elegant foundation. The result is a multidimensional spirit that's simultaneously smooth and complex – equally at home in the world's finest cocktail bars and the most intimate dinner parties.

Taste
Basbas tastes of herbs, sage rosemary and anise. Cinnamon on the nose and honey on the lips. It's very light and slightly sweet. Extremely easy to sip, mix and love at your next dinner party. Basbas comes on light and bright... Super drinkable with a soul-warming herbaceousness and uplifting finish. It’s remarkably balanced and goes down easy before, during, after or way after dinner.

What is Hierbas
Hierbas is a lower-ABV (25%) herbal spirit originally distilled by monks living in the Balearic Islands (Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera) around the 16th century. The monks used a base of star anise to macerate more than a dozen other wild herbs indigenous to the islands and create a tonic that they used medicinally (<-- not a health claim) and for ceremony. Since then it's been protected by a handful of families on the island.
“Bas” means “wild” in Euskara --the Basque language, a reference to wild foraged herbs in the bottle and the wild spirit of the people who make it. The recipe has been protected by Ibiza's Carreró family for generations.
What makes Basbas taste so much better than other hierbas?
We use a delicate maceration technique that takes more than 10x longer than other hierbas you might find on the islands. The herbs, fruits, and spices in each bottle are hand-harvested and locally sourced. Each was added and removed to the mixture at precise intervals creating a smooth flavor with less sweetness than other hierbas.

WILD HERBS, WILD PEOPLE
“Bas” means “wild” in Euskera (the Basque language), a reference to wild foraged herbs. The recipe has been protected by Ibicenco families for generations but dates back to 16th century monks living in the Isles Balearia. Often used as a remedy, the monks fermented wild anise, then extracted essential oils of other herbs like rosemary,
juniper, chamomile and sage into the alcohol.

First distilled by monks living on the island in the 16th century, Basbas has been protected by the families of the island for generations. The monks who originated hierbas
understood this truth: Basbas is a social lubricant that has been bringing people together for centuries. And we, in this generation, are the caretakers of that mystical tradition that originated in the form of ceremony and lives on in the form of camaraderie.
THE SPIRIT OF IBIZA
A truly bohemian port city founded by the Carthaginians in 654 BCE, the island had played home to Romans, Arabs, Catalons, then the Catholic Church. In the '70s, the island's wild mystique drew Woodstock-era icons like Bob Marley. Joni Mitchell wrote her iconic album “Blue” on the island and Nico mused that the mystical island was an inspiration for some of the Velvet Underground’s most important work.
