Transport the guests at your next dinner party to the Balearic Islands with the most awarded hierbas in the world. Our 4th generation recipe has sold out six times in the U.S. and won more than 30 international awards. We distill in a craft distillery outside of Santa Eularia in Ibiza, aged to perfection and bottled with intention.

Enjoy chilled or on the rocks, aerated in a shakerito or as the base spirit in your negroni, mojito or spritz.

Basbas tastes of herbs, sage rosemary and anise. Cinnamon on the nose and honey on the lips. It's very light and slightly sweet. Extremely easy to sip, mix and love at your next dinner party.

25% ABV. Imbibe Responsibly. 21+ Only

The Spirit of Ibiza

Basbas is the most awarded hierbas in the world, with more than 30 international medals, 12 golds, two double-golds, two best-of-category, and a consumer choice award. For a complete list of our awards, visit our awards page.

What is Hierbas?

Hierbas is a lower-ABV (25%) herbal spirit originally distilled by monks living in the Balearic Islands (Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera) around the 16th century. The monks used a base of star anise to macerate more than a dozen other wild herbs indigenous to the islandsĀ and create a tonic that they used medicinally (<-- not a health claim) and for ceremony. Since then it's been protected by a handful of families on the island.

ā€œBasā€ means ā€œwildā€ in EuskaraĀ --the Basque language, a reference to wild foraged herbs in the bottle and the wild spirit of the people who make it. The recipe has been protected by Ibiza's CarrerĆ³ family for generations.

What makes Basbas taste so much better than other hierbas?

We use a delicate maceration technique that takes more than 10x longer than other hierbas you might find on the islands. The herbs, fruits, and spices in each bottle are hand-harvested and locally sourced. Each was added and removed to the mixture at precise intervals creating a smooth flavor with less sweetness than other hierbas.

Basbas is the only mixable hierbas and can be used as the base spirit in traditional drinks like a Negroni or Mojito. Visit our instagramĀ for inspiration.Ā

Sustainability

We also take an active approach to sustainability. There is no disposable plastic in our production process. Even the freshness capsule that seals each bottle is produced from compostable material--a polylactic acid extrusion (plant starches) to be precise.

We're a member of 1% for the planet and donate an additional $1 from every bottle sold anywhere in the world to keep the waters of Ibiza plastic-free.

What does BasbasĀ tasteĀ like?

Basbas tastes of herbs, sage rosemary and anise. Cinnamon on the nose and honey on the lips. It's very light and slightly sweet. Extremely easy to sip, mix and love at your next dinner party. Basbas comes on light and bright... Super drinkable with a soul-warming herbaceousness and uplifting finish. Itā€™s remarkably balanced and goes down easy before, during, after orĀ way after dinner.

What You'll Taste:Ā Anise, Sage, Wild Herbs

What You'll Smell:Ā Cinnamon, Anise, Rosemary

What You'll Feel:Ā Happy to be alive

Can Basbas replace Chartreuse in my mixes?

Yes! With the short supply of Chartreuse, many mixologists have turned to Basbas as the herbal component in their recipes. We think the taste of Basbas is more accessible and versatile, but Basbas does not produce the cloudy "louche" visual commonly associated with anisettes like Chartreuse and Ricard.
